Monday: City Council meeting cancelled

With two council members scheduled to be absent, the Monday, March 17 City Council meeting is cancelled due to lack of a quorum.


The City Council normally meets in open session at 4:30 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month.


The next regularly-scheduled City Council meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. April 7.

March 22: Del Mar Recycles

Ready to clear some clutter?


The City of Del Mar and EDCO are sponsoring a free recycling, shredding and mulch event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 22, at the lower parking lot of Shores Park. Enter off of Stratford Court south of Ninth Street.


Residents can responsibly dispose of electronic waste, fluorescent bulbs, household batteries and sharps.


Household hazardous waste and pharmaceuticals will not be accepted.


A certified paper shredder will provide onsite shredding of up to three banker boxes full of documents per household.


Goodwill will accept donations of reusable items.


Residents also can self-load up to three barrels of mulch while supplies last. 


The event is open to City of Del Mar residents and businesses only. The collection of sharps is limited to residents only.

Lifeguards deliver safety presentation to teens

Del Mar lifeguards delivered presentations on beach safety to Torrey Pines High School students this week. 


Lifeguards Sean Hogan and Adam Decker covered how to identify rip currents and avoid sting rays and sunburn and other aspects of staying safe at the beach. 


A 27-slide presentation rich with photos, drawings and data illustrated the talks, which were attended by nearly 1,000 students.
