Final round-the-clock railway closure is scheduled for this weekend

The last in a series of round-the-clock, weekend-long railway closures is scheduled to run from late tonight through Monday morning as SANDAG proceeds with its Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Program.

During the "Absolute Work Window," passenger and freight train service will be suspended between Solana Beach and downtown San Diego to allow for nonstop construction. In recent months, SANDAG has scheduled several of the closures.

The closures are expected to resume in the fall; project planners thank residents for their patience.

Starting tonight, residents near the railway could hear noise from construction equipment and vehicles and see bright lights illuminating work areas.

Parking restrictions on the westernmost segment of 8th Street began on Tuesday and will remain in place through Saturday.

The work is part of SANDAG's Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization 5 project. The railway closure runs from 10 p.m. March 21 through 5 a.m. March 24.

Construction is expected to continue through mid-2027.

Tomorrow: Del Mar Recycles

Just in time for the start of spring, residents can clear clutter  and collect mulch for their gardens during a recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 22, at the lower parking lot of Shores Park.

Enter off of Stratford Court south of Ninth Street.

Sponsored by the City of Del Mar and EDCO, the annual Del Mar Recycles event includes the free collection of electronic waste, fluorescent bulbs, household batteries and sharps.

A certified paper shredder will provide onsite shredding of up to three banker boxes full of documents per household.

Goodwill will accept donations of reusable items.

Residents also can self-load up to three barrels of mulch while supplies last.

The event is open to City of Del Mar residents and businesses only. The collection of sharps is limited to residents only.

Household hazardous waste and pharmaceuticals will not be accepted.
