Happy Fourth of July!
Happy Independence Day!
As our great nation celebrates its 249th birthday, the City of Del Mar is set to host its busiest holiday.
The fun includes a homegrown parade and get-together at Powerhouse Park organized by the Del Mar Foundation.
At 9 a.m., Cub Scout Pack 734 will lead a flag salute and Del Mar Community Connections' "Singing Together" group will perform the National Anthem. The parade begins at 9:30 a.m.
A full closure of Coast Boulevard between 15th and 20th streets is scheduled from 8:30 to 11 a.m. to allow for the parade. Participants are encouraged to decorate bikes, strollers and wagons and dress themselves and their dogs in red, white and blue. Please leave E-bikes at home. Gather at Powerhouse Park afterward for cookies and lemonade, to greet Uncle Sam and sing patriotic songs.
Throughout the day, residents can expect parking restrictions at many locations along the beach colony and North Hills neighborhoods.
A full complement of Community Services, Lifeguard, Fire Department and Public Works staff will be on hand. So will extra Sheriff's deputies.
Residents and visitors are reminded that alcohol may not be consumed on City beaches, parks and streets.
Safety officials add that the safest way to enjoy Fourth of July fireworks is to attend a professional display. In the City of Del Mar, the possession of fireworks is a misdemeanor punishable by a $1,000 fine or arrest. Fireworks such as sparklers, poppers and sky lanterns are dangerous and illegal.
Have a fun and safe Fourth!
