Goodman is named Lifeguard of the YearLet's hear it for Del Mar's Senior Lifeguard Aidan Goodman, the San Diego Padres' Lifeguard of the Year.
Goodman received the award at the Petco Park this week as part of the Padres' "Salute to Service," which recognizes lifeguards and first responders.
Accompanying Aidan were fellow lifeguards Amara Dumas, Jason Grindle, Tim Erickson and Ben Kuleto.

 Del Mar showed its red, white and blue colors during the annual Fourth of July Parade. Large crowds kept lifeguards, Sheriff's deputies and maintenance crews busy. By the numbers, the holiday included: Estimated beach visitors, 40,000; lifeguard water contacts, 750; water rescues, 67; alcohol contacts, 200; medical aids, 22; dog contacts, 130.

Wednesday: Last day to reserve bins for Fuel Reduction ProgramHave you reserved your bins for the Fuel Reduction Program? Wednesday is the deadline. Contact EDCO now to order you bins!
At no charge, residents can order delivery of up to two, three-yard bins.
To reduce wildfire risk, the Fire Department urges all households to reserve—and fill— the bins with trimmings and yard waste.
Collection of the filled bins will take place from July 21 through Aug. 8.
In related activity, the Fire Department is scheduling inspections of residential properties in the new Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone to reduce the threat of vegetation fires in Del Mar.

New striping for safety at 27th StreetA city contractor this week restriped the intersection of Camino Del Mar and 27th Street in accordance with plans developed by the City's traffic engineer and approved by the Traffic and Parking Advisory Committee.
The work included the realignment of one crosswalk, new thermoplastic striping and reflective materials, and new "STOP AHEAD" markings to increase pedestrian visibility and enhance vehicle fluidity through the intersection.

Website tool added to assist visitors with disabilitiesVisitors to the City's website will find a new tool designed to assist online visitors with disabilities. The tool displays as a blue stick figure in the lower, right-hand corner of pages on www.delmar.ca.us.
Click on the tool to open a panel with options to personalize how text and images are displayed.
Del Mar added the tool to comply with a new federal rule on accessibility of state and local governments' content on websites and mobile apps. The rule is part of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Council recognizes Jan McMillanJan McMillan—former City Council member and mayor, library volunteer and supporter of the San Dieguito Lagoon—received a City of Del Mar proclamation June 7 recognizing her service to the community.
McMillan served on City Council from 1988 to 1996 and was mayor in 1990 and 1994.

Bluffs stabilization activities: July 11-17In its weekly notice to the City of Del Mar, SANDAG covers planned construction activities, work at night and on the beach, and closures associated with the Del Mar Bluffs 5 Stabilization Project. The project is scheduled to continue through mid 2027.

Wednesday: Reception for sculpture installationsThe Temporary Outdoor Sculpture Program is bringing five pieces to the town center and on Wednesday, Del Mar Foundation is hosting a reception to celebrate the installations, the artists and the release of an art map to guide visitors from one creation to the next.
The reception is set for 4 p.m. July 16 at the Del Mar Civic Center.
On Monday, the installations are scheduled to begin; sculptures will remain on display for 23 months. The nonprofit Del Mar Foundation manages and pays for the sculpture program.
