Late night downtown power washing to begin on Monday

In partnership with the City, Del Mar Village Association has scheduled a power washing of streets and sidewalks in the town center starting at midnight on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 25-27.


The cleaning includes both sides of Camino Del Mar from 10th to 15th streets and both sides of 15th Street from Stratford Court to Camino Del Mar.


DMVA schedules Urban Corps of San Diego to complete the cleanings five times per year.

DMTV releases Art Walk video

Viewers can learn about recently-installed sculptures in a two-minute video released this week by Del Mar TV.


The Del Mar Art Walk 2025 video highlights five pieces and how people can enjoy them by strolling along Camino Del Mar and 15th Street.


In cooperation with the City, Del Mar Foundation administers and pays for the Temporary Sculpture Program.

Refinishing begins for streetlight standards 

Public Works Department crews this week began refinishing 61 wooden streetlight standards in downtown Del Mar. The work includes standing, staining and two applications of protective clear coat. Completion is expected Sept. 26.

Sept. 5-8: Full closure of SB Interstate 5 near La Jolla

Caltrans has scheduled a full closure of southbound Interstate 5 near La Jolla and Pacific Beach from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8.


The closure of all southbound lanes between Highway 52 and Mission Bay Drive is to allow for roadway and drainage improvements, according to a news release. 


The closure will be the first of six planned for the area as part of the transportation agency's I-5 Asset Management Project.

SANDAG begins culvert replacement at 11th Street

SANDAG this week began replacing a drainage channel at the foot of 11th Street as part of the Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Project, a multi-year program to improve drainage and strengthen slopes along the heavily traveled railway.

SANDAG rail notice: Aug. 25-29

In a weekly notice to the City of Del Mar, SANDAG covers planned construction activities for the Del Mar Bluffs 5 Stabilization Project. 


In addition to summarizing work along the railway, SANDAG's notice states that geotechnical studies related to the proposed Rail Realignment Project are set to begin next month in neighborhoods in Del Mar and the City of San Diego.

Write Out Loud storyteller

Wednesday: Kamishibai Storybox Theater

Kamishibai, a mesmerizing Japanese storytelling tradition, returns to the Del Mar Library from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27. Children of all ages are welcome to attend the performance presented by the nonprofit "Write Out Loud."

Sept. 13: Recycling event at Shores Park 

The City of Del Mar and EDCO are sponsoring a free recycling, shredding and mulch event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 13, at the lower parking lot of Shores Park. Enter off of Stratford Court south of Ninth Street.


Residents can responsibly dispose of electronic waste, fluorescent bulbs, household batteries and sharps.


Household hazardous waste and pharmaceuticals will not be accepted.


A certified paper shredder will provide onsite shredding of up to three banker boxes full of documents per household.


Residents also can self-load up to three barrels of mulch and compost while supplies last. The event is open to City of Del Mar residents and businesses only. The collection of sharps is limited to residents only.
