Sunday: Rescheduled downtown power washing to begin 

Three straight nights of rescheduled power washing of downtown streets, sidewalks and furnishings are set to begin at midnight Sunday.


The cleaning includes both sides of Camino Del Mar from 10th to 15th streets and both sides of 15th Street from Stratford Court to Camino Del Mar.


In partnership with the City, Del Mar Village Association schedules Urban Corps of San Diego to complete the cleanings five times per year.

Monday: City offices closed for Labor Day

City offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, in observance of Labor Day. All essential public safety and public works services will be uninterrupted. We will be back to business as usual on Tuesday.

Tuesday: Return of winter rules for dog-friendly beaches

And just like that, we're back to winter rules for Del Mar's dog-friendly beaches. From the day after Labor Day through June 15:

  • Between 29th Street and Solana Beach border, off-leash dogs are allowed.
  • Between Powerhouse Park and 29th Street, dogs must be leashed. (From dawn to 8 a.m., off-leash dogs are allowed between 25th and 29th streets.)
  • Between Powerhouse Park and 6th Street, dogs must be leashed.

Friday: Full closure of SB I-5 begins near La Jolla

Caltrans has scheduled a full closure of southbound Interstate 5 near La Jolla and Pacific Beach from 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8.


The closure of all southbound lanes between Highway 52 and Mission Bay Drive is to allow for roadway and drainage improvements, according to a news release. 


The closure will be the first of six planned for the area as part of the transportation agency's I-5 Asset Management Project.

Sept. 13: Recycling event at Shores Park 

The City of Del Mar and EDCO are sponsoring a free recycling, shredding and mulch event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 13, at the lower parking lot of Shores Park. Enter off of Stratford Court south of Ninth Street.


Residents can responsibly dispose of electronic waste, fluorescent bulbs, household batteries and sharps.


Household hazardous waste and pharmaceuticals will not be accepted.


A certified paper shredder will provide onsite shredding of up to three banker boxes full of documents per household.


Residents also can self-load up to three barrels of mulch and compost while supplies last. The event is open to City of Del Mar residents and businesses only. The collection of sharps is limited to residents only.

Sept. 14: Community Picnic at Powerhouse Park 

The Del Mar Foundation's annual community picnic is set for 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at Powerhouse Park. Food, games and music by the band Prairie Sky will delight guests of all ages. No registration is required.
