Fire Ops 101 training for councilmembers and staff

Charging into burning building. Climbing a ladder truck's ladder to upper floors. Repelling from great heights. Operating the "Jaws of Life." Practicing lifesaving medical aids.

These were among the drills some elected officials and senior staff members from Del Mar, Solana Beach and Rancho Santa Fe completed Jan. 17 during Fire Ops 101.

The daylong training at Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District's Firefighter Training Facility in 4S Ranch included crews from Del Mar, Solana Beach and Rancho Santa Fe fire departments.

Del Mar Mayor Tracy Martinez, who attended the training with Deputy Mayor John Spelich, summarized the session during the Jan. 20 City Council meeting.

On Feb. 5 in Half Moon Bay, the Coastal Commission will vote upon a recommendation by commission staff to approve certification of Del Mar’s STR regulations as adopted by the City Council in 2024. With Commission approval, the ordinance would take effect immediately.
