Tuesday: Permit fees for short term rentals on Council's agenda
The City Council on Tuesday, Feb. 17, is set to consider establishing a fee of $815 for existing operators to secure a two-year short term rental permit. Renewals of the two-year permit are proposed at $598.
Designed to cover the costs of program administration, the fees would apply to 150 registered operators of existing short-term rentals. Those operators must submit complete permit applications between March 2 and May 1 and pay the permit fee upon approval of their applications.
Because the number of existing operators exceeds Del Mar's established cap of 129 units, applications for new short term rentals will be referred to a waitlist for processing when capacity becomes available.
Earlier this month, the Coastal Commission certified Del Mar's short term rental regulations as adopted by the City Council in 2024.
On March 2, Del Mar will launch an online portal to facilitate permit processing, enforcement and public awareness.
