Breaking Ground

The long-awaited Downtown Streetscape began this week with crews demolishing sidewalks and intersections on the east side of Camino del Mar between 15th and 13th streets. 

Workers removed the curb ramps on both sides of 15^th Street as part of improvements to the busy crosswalk. Also this week, workers began removing unhealthy trees.

In the construction area, one of two northbound lanes and some parallel parking will be closed during work hours. Sidewalks could be closed temporarily. Please read and follow all posted signs.

For the week ahead, work is scheduled for the curb ramps at 15^th Street and the ramps and crosswalk at 14^th Street.  More demolition of sidewalks between 14^th and 13^th streets is planned.

Starting on the week of Jan. 14, crosswalk work at 13^th Street is set to begin, followed by curb and sidewalk demolition between 13^th and 12^th streets.

Monday: Biweekly briefing, public welcome

Residents and business owners are invited to attend biweekly briefings on upcoming construction activity. The first briefing is set for 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino del Mar. Please join us!

Streetscape in a nutshell

The Downtown Streetscape Project will beautify and improve safety along the Camino del Mar corridor between 9th and Plaza streets. The $6.8 million project includes new sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, street furniture, landscaping, paving and other improvements between Plaza and 9^th streets.  Construction is scheduled to run through June. The Downtown Streetscape Project was first envisioned in 1996 as part of a citywide street and sidewalk improvement program.
