Rainy days

Despite wet weather this week, crews finished sidewalks and sidewalk ramps on the 1400 block of Camino del Mar. On the 1300 block, irrigation work and other preparation continued to prepare that stretch -- which fronts the library and medical offices -- for pouring next week.

On Monday next week, the project and City Hall will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

When the work week resumes on Tuesday, crews are scheduled to complete the sidewalk on the 1300 block and begin demolition and curbing on the north end of the 1200 block.

While stormy weather shut down construction on Monday and Thursday this week, weather delays are built into the construction contract and timeline, which shows the project will be finished in late June.

In other scheduling news, starting on Jan. 26, a two-man crew is scheduled to work briefly on Saturday mornings to pressure-wash a treatment solution from freshly-poured sidewalks. That will allow the new sidewalks to be open for the balance of the weekend. This Saturday work is expected to continue for the duration of the project.

Signage available for businesses owners

In cooperation with the Del Mar Village Association, the City has printed banners and window posters to provide for business owners in active work zones. The signage reminds customers that all businesses are open during construction and also can be posted to  demarcate entrances and parking. Merchants can request signs by e-mailing: streetscape@delmar.ca.us 

Jan. 22: Biweekly briefing, public welcome

Residents and business owners are invited to attend biweekly briefings on upcoming construction activity. The next briefing is set for 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino del Mar. Download a schedule here.

Safety is no accident

In construction areas, one of two lanes and parallel parking will be closed during work hours. Sidewalks could be closed temporarily. Please read and follow all posted signs. Do not cross orange fencing and stay clear of closed sidewalks. Thank you!

Streetscape in a nutshell

The Downtown Streetscape Project will beautify Camino del Mar and improve safety between 9th and Plaza streets. The $6.8 million project includes new sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, street furniture, landscaping, paving and other improvements. Construction is scheduled to run through June. The Downtown Streetscape Project was first envisioned in 1996 as part of a citywide street and sidewalk improvement program.
