In this issue: Work Begins on 10th Street Storm Drain

Reinforced concrete pipe replaces badly-corroded metal pipe at 10th Street.

Storm drain replacement

A badly-corroded, corrugated metal storm drain is on its way out as workers this week started to replace it with 24-inch, reinforced concrete pipe.

The pipeline, which crosses beneath Camino del Mar at 10th Street, is one of two being replaced as part of the Downtown Streetscape Project.

Earlier, a replacement storm drain was installed at 11th Street.

Week of July 29

Scheduled construction activity:

Storm drain installation, Camino del Mar at 10th Street;
East-west crosswalks at 11th Street;
East-west crosswalk at 10th Street;
Streetlight installations, cleanup and finish work, 1100 block of west Camino del Mar; and
Soils and irrigation prep for landscaping.

On the 1100 block of west Camino del Mar, final segments of sidewalk construction are expected to be finished this week.

Streetscape in a nutshell

The Downtown Streetscape Project will beautify Camino del Mar and improve safety between 9th and Plaza streets. The $7.2 million project includes new sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, street furniture, landscaping, paving and other improvements. Construction is scheduled to run through August. The Downtown Streetscape Project was first envisioned in 1996 as part of a citywide street and sidewalk improvement program.

Aug. 5: Biweekly briefing, public welcome

Residents and business owners are invited to meet the project team and get the latest information on construction activity during biweekly briefings at the Del Mar Civic Center Town Hall, 1050 Camino del Mar. The next briefing is set for 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5. Open a briefing schedule (PDF).

Free parking at Civic Center

Visitors to downtown Del Mar can park for free at the Del Mar Civic Center, 1050 Camino Del Mar. The garage is accessible from entrances on 10th and 11th streets and by a stairway or elevator that connect to the plaza above.
