Public Furniture Donation Program

The City of Del Mar Public Furniture Donation Program provides donation opportunities to the public and financially supports the long-term preservation and maintenance of the City's public furniture.

The formal Program Policy was adopted by the City Council on August 18, 2025. Key aspects of the Program include:

Eligible Public Furniture

Eligible items include benches, chairs, tables, picnic tables, bottle filling/water drinking fountains, and other City-approved furniture. 

Plaques

A plaque will be installed on each piece of public furniture sponsored with the donation. Donors have the opportunity to include a personalized plaque inscription that meets the Program's specifications.

Fees and Agreement

Donation fees are based on the current market rate cost of the Public Furniture to be donated and the related administration and installation costs. Approved donors must pay up-front for the total cost and sign a Program Agreement with the City.

Term of Donation

Donations exist for a 10-year period or the useful life of the item, whichever comes first. At the end of the donation term, a donor can opt to rejoin the Donor Interest List to be notified of future donation opportunities. Placement on the list does not guarantee an opportunity for the same location or item.

If you are interested in becoming a donor, please email citymanager@delmar.ca.us and provide your name, email, phone number, and preferred Public Furniture donation item to be added to the Donor Interest List.

When an eligible Public Furniture item becomes available, the person at the top of the list will be contacted by the City and given the opportunity to donate for the available location. If they decline, the opportunity will be offered to the next person on the list, and so on. Those who decline will retain their place on the list for one additional opportunity. After declining a second opportunity, the person will be moved to the bottom of the list. Names will remain on the list until a donation location is accepted or removal is requested.
