Background
Residential homes play a significant role in contributing to storm water pollution through various activities such as landscaping, vehicle maintenance, and household practices. Runoff from lawns treated with fertilizers and pesticides, as well as from driveways and sidewalks contaminated with oil, grease, and debris, can carry pollutants into storm drains and eventually into nearby water bodies. To prevent storm water pollution, homeowners can implement simple measures such as properly disposing of household chemicals, minimizing the use of fertilizers and pesticides, and maintaining vehicles to prevent leaks.
We also encourage the public to immediately report any incidents of storm water pollution to the Del Mar Clean Water Program.
