In March 2024, the City Council budgeted $750,000 per year for the Pavement Management Program through 2029. The allocation is tied to a study that evaluated nearly 30 miles of thoroughfares, streets and paved alleys that Del Mar maintains. The 2023 assessment concluded that Del Mar's Pavement Condition Index (PCI) ranking of 76.1 is "good." During the next five years, Del Mar expects to raise its PCI to 80.5.
The PCI ranks the structural integrity and deterioration levels of roadways. Roads with a PCI of less than 70 are eligible for rehabilitation. For roads ranked at 70 or above, preventative measures such as patching or crack sealing would be recommended to extend the lifespan of the existing pavement.
2023-24
During the first year of the Pavement Management Program, crews resurfaced both sides of Camino Del Mar between Coast Boulevard and Jimmy Durante Boulevard.
Among the local streets, segments of Ocean View Avenue were resurfaced and slurry seal was installed on Bellaire Street.
2024-25
During 2024-25, the Pavement Management Program is evaluating resurfacing and restriping Jimmy Durante Boulevard between Via de la Valle and the traffic circle at San Dieguito Drive.
